In this week’s issue, I want to talk about the primary difference between being a “Social Media Manager” and a “Social Media Content Provider.”
There are actually a few other job titles when it comes to social media…
However, today I will only be talking about the aforementioned two.
But before I get into the difference between them…
Let’s take a look at each of them individually first.
Social Media Manager
A Social Media Manager is probably the most common job title among social media professionals…
It’s the overarching title that is used to describe just about anyone who works in social media.
By definition, a Social Media Manager…
Creates and executes a social media strategy.
They’re typically responsible for…
- Increasing brand awareness
- Driving traffic
- Generating leads and sales
Basically a Social Media Manager is a full-time position and then some!
So if you’re a Local Small Business Consultant…
You simply DO NOT have the bandwidth to be anyone’s Social Media Manager except for your own brand.
Unfortunately, there’s just too many responsibilities and simply NOT enough time for you to handle multiple local small businesses social media accounts.
Social Media Content Provider
A Social Media Content Provider has only one responsibility…
And it’s, well, to provide content.
Go figure!
In a larger business, a Social Media Content Provider would typically be under and report to a Social Media Manager.
However, in small businesses such as local mom & pop shops who don’t have staff specifically to handle their digital marketing, much less social media marketing…
Then there is no Social Media Manager to work under or report to.
So again if you’re a Local Small Business Consultant…
You can be offering social media content marketing services IF…
And it’s a BIG “IF”…
You are using ASSETS and AUTOMATION.
If you’re NOT using assets and automation to provide social media content…
Then the same problem holds true…
And you simply DO NOT have the time or resources to create custom content for more than maybe, just maybe a handful of clients.
But even just one client would consume a ton of your time.
What’s The Difference Between Them?
The big difference between being a Social Media Manager and a Social Media Content Provider is that…
- Your level of responsibility is significantly less by being a Social Media Content Provider.
- You CAN be a Social Media Content Provider through the use of assets and automation.
Meaning, by being a Social Media Content Provider only…
You are NOT responsible for developing a social media strategy.
You are NOT responsible for growing the amount of followers.
You are NOT responsible for commenting and liking other people’s comments.
You are NOT responsible for generating leads and sales.
Your ONLY responsibility is to provide agreed upon content posted to your client’s social media accounts.
That’s it!
Why You Don’t Want To Be A Social Media Manager
Being a Social Media Manager is simply NOT scalable…
Meaning, you CANNOT in good conscience be a Social Media Manager for anything more than one client.
So unless that one client is going to pay a full-time salary, then you simply will not be able to make enough money for it to be worthwhile to you.
Even if you were to be paid a full-time salary…
It would likely require you to be a full-time employee of said client.
And thus defeat the whole purpose of being a Local Small Business Consultant to begin with.
So if you want to be a Social Media Manager…
You’re better off just applying to a company who’s looking to hire one.
But be warned…
The average annual salary of a Social Media Manager is only $50,473.
Why You Do Want To Be A Social Media Content Provider
Instead, by being a Social Media Content Provider it’s 100% scalable…
Meaning, you CAN in good conscience be a Social Media Content Provider for as many clients as you want.
Because when you’re utilizing assets and automation…
You’ve taken the time restraint out of the equation.
And the quality of your work should still remain at the same level for 1 client or 100 clients.
This is the power of scalability with the one-to-many relationship…
Allowing you to take on as many clients as you would like (with LIMITLESS earning potential)…
WITHOUT increasing your workload!
If that excites you…
Then you’re going to love what I’m about to tell you next!
Why Most Local Small Businesses Don’t Post Content Consistently on Social Media
The primary reason most Local Small Businesses don’t do social media content marketing themselves is because…
They don’t have the bandwidth (there’s that word again).
They typically can’t afford to hire an employee exclusively to do this task.
Nor can they typically afford to have one of their current staff tasked with doing it either, as it’s just too time consuming because they’re NOT using assets and automation.
How You Can Help Local Small Businesses By Being Their Social Media Content Provider
If you’re serious about being a Social Media Content Provider for local small businesses…
Or even if you just want to add it to your repertoire of digital marketing services you provide for local small businesses…
Then you’re going to want to listen up…
As I’ve got the perfect solution for you!
I’ve been where you are.
I tried to be a “Social Media Manager” for my local small business clients in the past…
And I had to learn the hard way.
Which has led me to two conclusions…
- Local Small Businesses simply don’t have the means to pay the high-ticket service fees required to get “Social Media Management Services” because if they did, they would have already hired a “Social Media Manager.”
- Local Small Businesses NEED social media content more than anything else when it comes to social media marketing.
Since this is so critical for all local small businesses…
You can easily provide this service for them when you use assets and automation.
Luckily for you…
I’ve already created the “assets”…
And the “automation”…
Over the past few years through my own trials and tribulations.
And now they’re both available to you depending on your own needs at the bottom of this newsletter.
