TLMM #008: The Age-Old Secret Of How To Get Local Small Business Clients

Read time: 4 mins

In this week’s issue, I want to talk about the age-old secret of getting local small business clients.

And I think you’re going to be a little shocked by this.

However, this is NOT some magic potion or voodoo so I don’t want you to be disappointed when you learn what I’m about to share with you.

So let’s dive in.

Local Small Business’ #1 Need In Order To Survive And Thrive

Right now, there’s probably a lot of different ideas floating around in your head when you read that sub-headline…

(and BTW, none of them are wrong.)

However, you may even be overthinking it…

This probably won’t shock you…

I’ll even bet you know exactly what I’m about to say…

*Drumroll* please!

Yep, I know it’s hard to believe! 😉

That is the only metric that any local small business owner cares about.

They don’t care about how many followers they have on social media.

They don’t care about how cheap their ad costs are.

They don’t care about how many leads they’re getting.

All they care about is making sales and getting customers!

Sure, all of those other things they probably care about a little bit…

But only because they typically result in making money!

Why Local Small Business’ Need Your Help

About 99.9% of all local small businesses provide a service.

That service typically demands the majority of their time.

So the last thing they have time to think about is how to make more sales.

But they know they need to make more sales.

They just don’t have the time (or don’t know how to do it).

That’s where you come in. 😉

They need to hire someone just like you that knows how to help a local small business make more sales.

And the more sales you can help them make…

Then the more likely they will continue to pay you for the service(s) you provide in order for them to make those sales.

It’s NOT rocket surgery here! 😉

How You Can Get Local Small Business Clients

If you’ve been a Local Small Business Consultant for any length of time…

Then you know there are a variety of methods to prospect for local small business clients.

But just in case you don’t know…

Here’s a list of ways to prospect for local small businesses:

  1. Cold Calling
  2. Cold Emailing
  3. Content Marketing
  4. Networking
  5. Advertising
  6. Referrals

Most people shy away from cold calling as it’s the most intimidating prospecting method for most Local Small Business Consultants.

With that being said, the most popular client prospecting method on the list is probably cold emailing.

A fan favorite is none other than referrals…

As it’s the easiest way to get a local small business client that requires little to no work.

Which Local Small Business Client Getting Method Works Best

That’s a tricky one…

There’s really no right or wrong answer here.

Because they all work…

And they all don’t work…

If you don’t work them.

Meaning, you need to have a plan or system in place no matter which method you choose.

Does that make sense?

While all of the aforementioned prospecting methods work…

It’s really a matter of preference with what works best for you.

The Age-Old Secret to Getting Local Small Business Clients

If you have the skill sets required to help local small businesses make more sales…

And you’re determined to make this business model work for you…

Then in my opinion you’re already more than halfway there.

In fact, it’s likely you’re already in the top 1% of successful Local Small Business Consultants.

Because the age-old secret to getting local small business clients can be summed up in one word…

In order to be successful…

No matter what local small business client prospecting method(s) you use…

It all comes down to focus and consistency.

Here are the two most important points to prospect effectively:

  1. Focus on one prospecting method
  2. Follow a consistent schedule for prospecting

Let me elaborate on those two points above…

Focus On One Prospecting Method

It’s easy to get discouraged and want to give up on one prospecting method when first getting started if you’re not seeing any results early on.

The key is to stick with it and not veer off course…

Oftentimes people simply fail because they gave up too soon.

Because you need to give it enough time so that you can learn from your failures by turning your failures into successes.

Follow A Consistent Schedule For Prospecting

It’s really easy to get caught up in the next shiny object that comes along…

Shiny objects are typically the number one reason you’ll find yourself getting off schedule and ultimately failing.

A surefire way to NOT have success with local small business prospecting is taking your time and attention away from it.

So mark my words…

Do everything you can to avoid shiny object syndrome at all costs.

You’ll thank me later. 🙂
