TLMM #037: Client Prospecting Strategies: The Facebook Ad Method

Read time: 4 mins

In this week’s issue, I want to continue this newsletter series and talk about how a specific client prospecting strategy I have coined as the “Facebook Ad Method” is a great way to get more clients as a Local Small Business Consultant or Digital Marketing Agency Owner…

Three weeks ago I talked about why you simply cannot afford to not have a Virtual Assistant to help you get new clients…

Because you need a VA to do client prospecting for you…

Using proven methods such as the “Facebook Ad Method.”

With that being said…

Let’s dive in!

To recap…

Why You Need To Use Proven Client Prospecting Methods

In order to have a real business as a Local Small Business Consultant and/or Digital Marketing Agency Owner…

You need to have clients!

In order to get clients…

You need to have a system/process in place to put yourself and/or your business’ products or services in front of prospective clients.

This is where most fail.

They simply do not have or implement a proven client prospecting method.

Because without a proven client prospecting method or strategy…

You’re relying on hope.

And hope is not a plan.

Like the old saying goes…

“Failing to plan is planning to fail.”

So if you want to run a successful Digital Marketing Agency as a Local Small Business Consultant…

This needs to be your top priority.

Nothing else matters.

And that’s why I have decided to do this client prospecting series of newsletters.

But before I get any further into this week’s newsletter…

I want to share with you what I believe to be the Top 7 client prospecting methods.

What The Top 7 Client Prospecting Methods Are

I’ve been in the Local Small Business Consulting industry and have run my own Digital Marketing Agency for the better part of the past 14 years.

So it’s safe to assume that I’ve done my fair share of client prospecting over the years.

With that being said…

Here’s what I’ve determined to be the top 7 proven client prospecting methods:

  1. Website Hosting Method
  2. Free Listing Method
  3. Repurpose Reviews Method
  4. Google Maps Method
  5. Google Message Method
  6. Facebook Pixel Method
  7. Facebook Ad Method

I’m not going to get into all 7 in this week’s newsletter…

I’m sure you can guess what some of them are from their titles…

But I’ll leave you guessing for the ones you haven’t figured out…

And hopefully you’ll be looking forward to each newsletter of this series which will come in the following weeks!

In this week’s newsletter…

I want to focus your attention on the second client prospecting method: Facebook Ad Method.

But first things first…

Why The Facebook Ad Is Such A Powerful Prospecting Method

Let’s face it…

Facebook ads are still king when it comes to online advertising options.

Facebook still has the most daily, monthly active users out of any of the social media platforms.

And Facebook still has more data about each individual using its platform than any of its competitors.

Thus giving it a huge advantage when it comes to running online advertising.

I’ve personally been running Facebook ads since 2011…

And obviously a LOT has changed over the years…

But in my opinion for the better.

Facebook’s machine learning keeps evolving and getting better and better each and every day.

Since so many people are on Facebook (and it’s sister properties – i.e. Instagram, Whatsapp, etc.)…

Your ideal audience IS THERE!

So if you can’t get your ads to work on Facebook…

Then you won’t be able to get your ads to work anywhere else either.

But I digress…

The Facebook Ad Method is a powerful client/customer prospecting method because you can reach your ideal potential clients/customers…

And you can do so for extremely reasonable prices…

Compared to what it would cost you to put your ad on a local physical roadside billboard or an ad in the local newspaper.

The key to this method working for you is…

  1. Your USP (Unique Selling Proposition)
  2. Your message
  3. The congruence your ad has with the actual offer you’re trying to promote

When you have all three of these in alignment…

You can get leads and convert more of those leads into sales (clients/customers).

How The Facebook Ad Method Works

This particular client/customer prospecting method is a bit more technical than that of the previous ones…

So I won’t go into all the nitty gritty details here in this newsletter.

But if you do want/need that information…

It is available in step-by-step instructions/directions in my Cold To Sold Clients: The Facebook Ad Method SOP.

Instead I will give you a high level overview of the entire process from start to finish.

First things first…

You will need to decide the ad objective to use for your ad.

Personally, I’m a BIG, BIG, BIG believer in building a list…

So that means I would suggest using a Facebook Lead Form Ad Campaign.

In case you’re not familiar…

This ad objective allows you to collect leads directly through a form directly on Facebook… (asking for name and email address at a bare minimum)

Next you will need to decide who your target audience will be for your ad.

You may want to stick to a specific geographic area or broaden it up to multiple cities or even the entire United States.

It’s totally up to you…

But I’m a big believer that the broader your audience is…

The cheaper the costs are…

And more likely to get the best possible results.

So when it comes to targeting…

I would probably target 40-60 or 45-60 or maybe even just 45+.

Again, totally up to you.

And then I recommend you use the demographic…

“Behaviors: Small business owners”

After that you’ll need to decide on where your ad will be displayed (Placements)…

I highly recommend just leaving it defaulted to “Advantage+ placements.”

That way you will let Facebook decide where it thinks it’s best to put your ad in front of your ideal audience.

When you get more familiar with Facebook ads and have had more experience, you can play around with this setting and others as well.

And finally you will need to configure the actual ad itself…

Please refer back to what I said earlier about the 3 keys to make this method work best.

Those 3 keys will help you come up with a great ad for this prospecting method.

After you have your ad campaign created…

You will want to have a solid follow-up email sequence that welcomes them to your list and then nurtures them to get to know, like, and trust you…

All while providing valuable information and trying to get them to take the next logical step with you by becoming a client through purchasing a product or service you offer.

Like I said previously, there are more details specifically for Facebook ads that need to be hashed out in order to make this method work…

But, essentially that is The Facebook Ad Method in a nutshell.

I said this the last two weeks…

And I’ll say it again…

The key to this client prospecting method (like any other) is doing the work!

Having a plan of action and executing it.

This is a never ending process and will only be as successful as the amount of work that’s put into it.

And in my opinion that’s why you simply cannot afford to NOT have a Virtual Assistant that you can rely on to do the work that you (and frankly I) won’t do.

So take this proven client prospecting method and have your VA implement it today!

You’ll thank me later. 🙂
