The number one problem most if not all local small businesses face with leads is not following up with them while they’re “hot.”
So with that in mind…
Let’s dive in!
Where The Hot Prospects Are
Ever heard the term, “low-hanging fruit?”
That’s exactly what the *hot prospects* I’m referring to are…
These are the inbound leads that are coming in every single day for a local small business.
Whether they are…
- Calling the business
- Texting the business
- Emailing the business
- Reaching out through a website chat widget
- Reaching out through Facebook messenger
- Reaching out through Instagram DMs
- Reaching out through Google Business Profile messages
If the business is doing things right that is…
I can’t tell you how many times a local small business did not realize that they had folks reaching out to them through social media and/or Google.
Unfortunately, a local small business cannot control how or when a lead (hot prospect) is going to reach out to the business.
And all too often these leads go unanswered and cold because too much time has passed.
Thus ultimately costing the local small business new customers/clients/patients…
And more importantly revenue!
Why The Local Small Business Needs To Follow-Up Immediately
As I previously mentioned…
The more time that goes by before someone (or something) responds to the inbound lead…
The colder they get.
And it’s the number one reason why lead generation services tend to fail for most local small businesses.
It’s not usually because the Local Small Business Consultant or Digital Marketing Agency can’t or doesn’t generate enough leads…
It’s because the local small business is not equipped to properly follow-up with those incoming leads.
That’s why the faster a local small business can respond to an incoming lead the better.
I would venture to guess that the speed in which a local small business follows up with a lead…
Makes up about 90% of whether or not the lead will ultimately become a customer/client/patient.
And in this world of instant gratification…
Where the average person has an attention span of about 7 seconds or less…
Speed is the name of the game.
What You Need To Follow-Up
If speed is the name of the game,..
The lead generation game, that is…
Then there’s nothing faster than almost instant or immediate!
Now granted, most if not all local small businesses cannot instantly or immediately follow-up with every single inbound lead…
Especially when those leads can be coming in from a variety of channels as I listed out above.
It’s just not feasible…
Unless you had one employee dedicated to one channel…
For EVERY. SINGLE. CHANNEL.
- One for calls
- One for texts
- One for emails
- One for website chat widget
- One for Facebook messenger
- One for Instagram DMs
- One for Google Business Profile messages
And BTW, one for calls might not cut it anyway if the local small business has a high volume of incoming calls.
So you would need at least seven dedicated employees to provide instant or immediate responses.
Again, it’s likely to not be a feasible option for the majority of local small businesses.
So what’s the alternative?

One word…
