In this week’s issue, I want to talk about what you’re doing now to generate more revenues in your business as a Local Small Business Consultant or Digital Marketing Agency Owner…
Unfortunately, it’s easy to get sidetracked…
And stop doing the things that actually matter the most in your business…
RGA (Revenue Generating Activities).
So with that in mind…
Let’s dive in!
What Exactly Is RGA?
In case you missed it…
RGA stands for Revenue Generating Activities.
I’ve heard it is also referred to as “Revenue Producing Activities.”
But I like the term, “Generating” better… 😉
With that being said…
RGAs are the things you can do that actually move the needle in your business.
Things that we put off because they take work (commitment and consistency)…
And in our line of work…
It’s primarily “contacting” local small businesses.
You know, all the things you do when desperate times call for desperate measures!
i.e. You’re broke! (or darn near it.)
Whenever that happens we go into fight or flight mode…
And it is almost always “fight” mode…
Especially when we have loved ones depending on us.
And ironically when this happens we almost always find a way to “get right.”
But here’s the thing…
If we were able to continue to do those uncomfortable RGAs…
Well let’s just say we might actually be where we want our businesses to be…
ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME!
Instead of just when our backs are up against the wall.
Why RGA Matters More Than Anything Else?
I think it’s pretty obvious why RGAs matter more than anything else…
But just in case you need a quick reminder…
RGAs are ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that you can do in your business to increase your revenues…
And ultimately, your net income.
Sometimes we get it twisted…
Meaning, we think that the colors in our logo or the logo itself matters…
When in reality at the end of the day that kind of stuff doesn’t move the needle.
Sure, an effective sales funnel with well written salescopy can help increase sales and conversions…
But typically only by the smallest of margins.
What RGA’s You Should Be Doing Daily
If you want to consistently move the needle in your business then you need to incorporate RGA’s daily.
This will ensure that you’re setting up your business for success.
And again, anything that involves contacting and/or speaking with local small business owners (or decision makers) is the most important thing you can do.
RGA’s include:
- Cold Walk-Ins
- Gathering Leads
- Cold Calling
- Cold Emailing
- Cold Direct Messaging (DMs)
- Creating Content
- Etc.
There are probably some others that could be included in that short list, but I think you get the picture.
All of it is grunt work…
It takes a ton of time and effort.
It’s not sexy by any means…
And not nearly as fun as buying a new domain name and creating a fancy funnel.
But absolutely necessary to really be “in business”…
And most importantly, generate revenues to ultimately pay the bills.
How To Create An Effective RGA Strategy
Recently Arnold Schwarzenegger shared something in his daily email newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club…
That I want to share here as I think may be beneficial to you…
With that being said…
An effective RGA strategy may initially need motivation…
However, motivation is rarely the issue…
Instead it’s the lack of momentum that’s the real killer.
So in order for your RGA strategy to really work…
You need momentum for it to become routine or habit forming.
Kind of like starting a workout routine…
You have to start small with realistic goals and expectations that challenge you…
But not so impossible that you will fail.
You definitely DO NOT want to try to commit to too much too soon where you will likely set yourself up for failure.
Because you may fail (at first).
So we want to make sure it’s easy to recommit to the RGA strategy if or when that happens.
Let’s go back to my example about exercise…
And let’s say you haven’t done any physical activity in a long, long time…
You don’t want to commit to training for an hour per day.
Instead, you should start off with something small like a 15 minute walk everyday.
And after each walk you mark it off on your calendar relentlessly…
That’s when you’ve found your momentum.
If you miss a day, just make sure you don’t miss two in a row.
Eventually one day, your daily walk will become routine and a habit for you.
The same can be said for your RGA strategy…
Eventually your daily RGA actions will become automatic and you will realize you’re doing them without needing to even think twice about it…
At that point then you can grow them.
If you started off walking into one local small business per day…
You can increase it to two, three, four, so forth and so on.
If you started off creating one piece of content per month…
You can increase it to two times per month…
And eventually to 4 times per month or once per week.
Does that make sense?
Do you see how powerful momentum is?
Get started tomorrow by just picking one RGA and commit to it.
Good luck!
See you next Monday!
