In this week’s issue, I want to talk about why you shouldn’t be selling websites to local small businesses regardless of niche as a Local Small Business Consultant or Digital Marketing Agency Owner…

You might just be thinking, “Well that doesn’t make any sense, what are you talking about Kerry?”

And I don’t blame you…

The reality is that NO business needs another website…

But what ALL businesses do need I’ll explain here in a minute. 😉

So with that in mind…

Let’s jump in!

 

Why No Local Small Businesses Need A Website

This may come as a shocker to you…

And I’m about to make a very bold statement here…

Websites are WORTHLESS!

Why???

Because websites are nothing but an online brochure.

When’s the last time you looked at a brochure?

Don’t worry… 

Take your time…

I’ll wait…

See what I mean?!?!

They simply do not do what they’re intended to do…

Sure, you can look at some pretty stock photography photos…

And read some poorly written paragraphs about the business and the products or services they offer.

Most of the time a website is overwhelming and confusing for most website visitors…

Thus why the bounce rate is typically so high.

So why in the world would any local small business (and yes – even professional services) pay high ticket prices for one?

The answer, because they’re uneducated.

 

How To Save Local Small Businesses From Making This Huge Mistake

As I previously mentioned…

Most (if not all) local small businesses are ignorant when it comes to understanding digital marketing, including websites.

Which is why they’re willing to pay you like a peasant or a king’s ransom to build them a website.

But the real question is, should you?

The answer is no.

Why???

Simply because you should help them make good decisions as you’ve become their trusted advisor.

They’re looking for your knowledge and expertise, plus guided insight into what’s working now (the latest technology, strategies, and techniques).

Basically they TRUST YOU!

So then why in the world would you want to lead them astray?

If you’re their “Guiding Light” so to speak when it comes to all things digital marketing…

It’s in your best interest to be honest and upfront with them about why a new website would be a very bad investment.

I know, I know…

It’s hard to not want to charge a local small business client a large sum of money to build them a templated website.

But I never said you can’t get paid…

You’re just not going to charge them for a traditional website. 😉

 

What You Should Be Selling Local Small Businesses Instead

So rather than build a local small business a website…

Instead, you should be building them a sales funnel (or two)!

Why???

Sales funnels will actually help the local small business…

  • Get more leads
  • Make more sales

That’s it!

As I previously mentioned…

Unfortunately, websites are just too distracting…

Ultimately most websites lead website visitors to feel overwhelmed…

And worse yet, confused!

And as they say, “A confused mind never buys!” 🙁 

And that’s what we want to avoid at all costs. (and yes I used “and” three sentences in a row)

Here’s the thing…

So not only are you giving the local small business a much better solution that will give them infinitely better results…

You’ll still be able to charge them the same if not more for your services.

Especially if the local small business you’re working with needs more than one sales funnel because they have multiple offers.

 

Why All Local Small Businesses Need Sales Funnels

Because all local small businesses NEED them for one!

A sales funnel will give the local small business a way to easily capture leads and make more *sales*…

I use the term sales there loosely as this can vary depending on the actual type of business.

Most local small businesses need either…

  • Appointments
  • Orders

And a well built sales funnel will “funnel” (or lead) website visitors to take one specific action.

So that means a sales funnel will…

  1. Reduce the bounce rate (number of website visitors leaving the website)

    And…

  2. Get more website visitors to convert for whatever it is that the local small business needs

And finally, a lot of local small businesses offer more than one product or service…

Meaning, that they would need MULTIPLE sales funnels.

Can you say, “Cha-ching!”?!

The way I see it…

You should ONLY be selling sales funnels NOT websites.

You’ll give them what they NEED…

Not what they WANT.

They’ll end up getting better results.

And you’ll end up with happy clients!
