In this week’s issue, I want to talk about how each social media network is best utilized as a Local Small Business Consultant or Digital Marketing Agency Owner…
Social media can be overwhelming…
Especially for a local small business owner.
But if you can help them understand how and why each social media network works…
It will allow you to help them get the best possible outcomes and overall results.
So with that in mind…
Let’s jump in!
Secret #1: Meta = Paid Ads
Meta’s (Facebook & Instagram) biggest strength is all of its 10,000+ data points it has on every one of its 1 Trillion users.
With that being said…
Facebook’s ads platform is what I would consider the Godfather of social media.
Meaning, it’s the oldest and most robust ads platform out there.
Sure Google’s ads platform is older, but it’s also not considered social media…
So as far as social media is concerned…
Facebook has been in the trenches with it the longest…
Thus providing the most user-friendly interface that includes a plethora of ad objectives and placements.
So if you’re looking to run paid ads on social media…
Look no further than Meta to begin with.
In all honesty, if you can’t get the traffic to convert from Facebook to whatever your offer is…
Keep in mind that no other platform will work for you either.
So that means if you decide to try another social media network’s ads…
You won’t suddenly have success with paid ads there either.
Secret #2: Twitter = Followers
Twitter by all accounts and purposes is built to get followers.
It’s really as simple as that.
Twitter is considered a “micro-blogging” social media network…
Meaning, it was originally built with the intention of sending out a text message from one person to many people…
Without having the traditional limitations that come with standard SMS text messaging.
The Twitter algorithm has always been built with that in mind…
And that is to get your message out to your followers.
Sure Twitter has made changes over the years like any other social media network…
But Twitter has probably been the only one to stay grounded in its roots.
Secret #3: TikTok = Reach
TikTok has gained its momentum from its ability to get your content viewed by complete strangers in masses.
There’s no better way to get your message across to hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and even millions of people.
That’s the real appeal to TikTok.
But of course like any new social media network things don’t always stay that way…
And likewise will be the same with TikTok.
I’ve already seen a significant decline in overall reach on average per video since I started using it in early 2020.
And of course make no mistake about it, it has coincided with TikTok introducing their own ads platform.
However, even though the organic reach is down from where it once was…
It’s still the top dog in terms of social media networks when it comes to having the best chance for your content to go viral.
Secret #4: YouTube = Search
YouTube is incredibly powerful for search…
YouTube is the equivalent of the Google Search Engine…
I guess that would make sense since Google owns it.
But nonetheless, it gives you a fantastic way to get your content found by those who are searching for it.
YouTube content lives on the social media network forever!
Meaning, any content you put up on YouTube is evergreen…
And indexed by YouTube so it can easily be found through simple search queries.
Which means content marketing efforts are never wasted…
You can potentially get views, subscribers, leads, and sales from videos which could go all the way back to its inception 2005!
So if you want search engine type traffic through video instead of text…
Then you’ll want to start building out a YouTube channel that provides a ton of value using the “how to” angle.
What About All The Other Social Media Accounts?
The reason I only mentioned these 4 social media accounts and not…
- Snapchat
- Etc.
Is primarily because these other social media accounts are not as applicable to local small businesses.
Does that mean you should use them?
Absolutely not!
In fact, the more the merrier…
But you also have to be realistic with what your local small business client’s overall objective is, where your local small business client’s audience is hanging out the most, and how much time you have (or your local small business client’s have).
In Conclusion
The main reason I wrote this newsletter about this particular subject this week is because…
I think it’s extremely important to understand the single most important benefit of each one.
And a lot of the time we forget what we’re actually trying to accomplish with each social media network.
This way now you can easily associate each social media network with one word (or primary benefit).
If you can keep that in mind…
You’ll know exactly which social media networks your local small business clients should be taking advantage of so…
They won’t have unrealistic expectations…
And…
You won’t be making any unrealistic promises.
